stitched work

I stitched this little work at Riversdale whilst the girls made their own artworks. The landscape is stitched in black and the accommodation building designed by Glenn Murcutt is stitched in pink. I used split stitch on calico.

Whilst this probably isn't the best scan of the work - it actually looks quite nice in real life. Nice enough for me to let Jay take it with him the next time he visited Mr Murcutt.

 And Murco liked it!

Murco's Place

Art Camp with school....

Can't complain really - I get paid to be here and make art.

Glenn Murcutt makes nice places to live - ashame about all the bugs. I guess having not much glass and lots of open doors lends itself to little animals!

bird hiatus....

Its been so long....

People keeping asking me "how are your birds?" and I keep slinking away with shame. I'm sad to say, I got bird-ed out. I'm surprised at how quickly it happened and I have a new found admiration for artists who have the dedication to pursue a theme until they have exhausted all possibilities. That's drive - that is!

How did Morandi - whose beautiful tonal paintings I adore - paint still lifes for so many years repeatedly??

Anyway.....

I HAVE made more birds. Actually, I made them a while ago but we have been enjoying their company on the shelves at home so I didn't want to sell them. But Pulp have rung a few times now and seeing as they have always been so good to me, I will part with my little flock. And then I can make more!

This last little man (above) might be staying with us as he has some stitching issues. He's my first real go at sewing with leather and he has a quite few stitch hole marks in the leather so he's a bit too shabby to sell.
We need a little bird of our own anyway...

what do you think of my other little birdies?

Look at me in AWW Dec 2009

Thats madebykilljoy birds on the mantlepiece behind Michael Clarke!
Yep - very exciting.... My first piece of editorial promotion...
Its just ashame that it said they were from Pulp Creative Paper - rather than from me and my email or blog. Not to worry - still VERY stoked!

My Place and Yours Play-along

I thought I would play along with Meet Me at Mikes "My Place and Yours" theme.
This week the theme was 5 minutes peace....

Its true - I do get quite a bit of my own quiet time - but my newest favourite place to be, is by the french doors in this ridiculously comfortable Eames executive chair (which was a freebie from a generous client of Jay's). Its old, saggy and the leather and foam has broken down and falling apart but boy can this chair recline! Perfect spot to read from and make birds in!
